New collections, exhibitions and educational programs await students when the expanded and renovated Asheville Art Museum reopens this spring in downtown Asheville.
The new museum features more than twice the space for studios and classrooms as the previous structure along with a media-ready lecture hall for programs. The expansion will help meet the demand for more tours, teacher workshops and hands-on studio experience for students in Western North Carolina’s 24 counties.
The new building incorporates the historic preservation of the 1926 Pack Library, renovation of the old museum and new construction. The exterior is sheathed in glass and lights up Pack Square Park and the City Center at night.
Encompassing nearly 70,000 square feet, the museum showcases new exhibition galleries, a larger library and a rooftop sculpture terrace and cafe. The permanent collection space has increased by 70 percent and the changing exhibition space has doubled.
